Non-linear finite strain consolidation of tailings and waste.
[摘要] The research report summarises the theory of consolidation, for both linearinfinitesimal strain, and for non-linear finite strain. The non-linear finite strain theoryisadopted in a computer program to model the building of a tailings dam by thinlayers. This program provides the pore water pressure profile over the depth of thedeposit, as well as the settlement of the deposit.Making use of the program and the consolidation properties of five mining residuesand two industrial residues, the build up of excess pore water pressures is modelledfor different rates of deposition of the waste products. These results are used indetermining how the rate of deposition affects the stability of the outer slope of atailings dam. Also, the difference in the stored volume in a dam is investigated, basedon different drainage condltions and rates of deposition.
