William B. Muchmore (1920-2017): His taxonomic contributions and complete bibliography
[摘要] William B. Muchmore (1920–2017) was the most influential worker on cave pseudoscorpions in North America anda globally-recognized expert on this arachnid order. Aside from brief stints in herpetological embryology and isopodtaxonomy, he dedicated his 62-year career to the study of pseudoscorpions, focusing on their taxonomy. He described278 new species, of which 167 were from caves. The majority of North American cave pseudoscorpions were eitherinitially described or revised by him. He also wrote on the phoretic habits of pseudoscorpions, and speculated that cavepseudoscorpion distributions may be influenced by troglophilic rodents and bats. A complete bibliography of his scientificpapers is provided.
