NPPs: Exploring their contribution and impact on resident education

[摘要] As an intern, I have seen the wide-ranging effects of nonphysician providers (NPPs) firsthand. NPPs have afforded me many advantages this year, including decreased administrative workload and increased exposure to the operating room (OR). I have turned to them for everything from clinical questions to supervision and assistance for minor procedures. As my intern year draws to a close, I am deeply appreciative of the guidance and support they have provided. However, I also have witnessed significant downsides to their presence in residency training. If we do not carefully define our role as residents, we risk becoming the accessory “parallel players” in patient care.
