THE FABRICATION OF POROUS HYDROXYAPATITE SCAFFOLD USINGGAUR GUM AS A NATURAL BINDER
[摘要] In bone tissue engineering, Hydroxyapatite (HA) is extensively used in medicalapplications as an implant material to enhance bone growth formation or as drug releasevehicle because of its resemblance to the components of human bones and for its excellentbiocompatibility. The porous structure is generally used as a scaffolding material. Manytechniqueshave been applied to fabricate HA porous scaffolds. In this work, polymericsponge technique was employed in the preparation of HA scaffold, using gum Ghatti, anatural binder obtained from the barks of Anogeissuslatifolia species. The influence ofbinder concentration for various sintering temperature 1100 oC,1150 oC and 1200 oC wasestimated. The Hydroxyapatite starting powder and Hydroxyapatite scaffold werecharacterized for phase purity, structural analysis, porosity measurements and mechanicalproperties. It is possible to produce Hydroxyapatite scaffolds with highly inter connectingmacro ranging from 500 to 1000 μm and micro pores from 400 to 2000 nm with acompressive strength ranging from 0.43 MPa to 2.62 MPa, comparable to trabacular bone.
