Modificación de oclusión dentaria y postura cráneo-cervical en niños con tratados con Activador abierto elástico
[摘要] Introduction. The open elastic activator is one of the most commonly used orthopedic devices to induce changes in the growth and development of the jaws. Objective. To describe the modifications of dental occlusion and craniocervical posture in children treated with Elastic Open Activator. Method. Quasi-experimental study. Universe of 19 children from 7 to 12 years old treated in the Stomatology Faculty of Havana from 2015 to 2017. Oral examination and teleradiography were performed at the beginning and the year after treatment. The results were presented in tables. Results. In class II children the degree of distoclusion was reduced; average of 1.39mm in the molar and 1.50mm in the canine. The highlight was modified with values close to normal (3.21mm). In class III the mesioclusion was reduced, the canine (difference of -1.95 mm) and the projection was increased (1.80 mm). In class II the cranio-vertebral angle increased (107.29º), in correspondence with a tendency to anterior rotation of the head, in class III the opposite occurred. The differences did not reach statistical significance. The cervical spine was found rectified (6.26mm and 6.20mm) and these values were reduced (-1.68mm and -0.12mm respectively). Conclusions. The open elastic activator modified the occlusion in both classes, the most significant changes occurred in classes II. Low and inverse relationships were found between changes in the position of the head and cervical spine with the magnitudes of the malocclusion.
