Managerial and service competencies of attorneys
[摘要] In order to provide an effective legal service, allattorney must, inter alia, be an effective manager andservice provider. Competencies are characteristicsthat are causally related to effective performance.The study investigated the managerial and servicecompetencies which attorneys require to performeffectively. In addition, the perceived trainingneeds of attorneys in the identified competencies wereinvestigated.The competencies were initially identified by means ofa literature review and interviews with senior membersof the legal profession. The thirty-one competenciesso identified formed the basis for a questionnairewhich was administered to practising attorneys. The85 respondents rated the importance of thecompetencies and determined the need for training inthese competencies.The survey revealed that twenty-nine competencies wereconsidered important for effective management andservice provision. The competencies were ranked inorder of importance.
