The township schools foundation phase teachers' experiences in the implementation of CAPS
[摘要] The purpose of the study was to explore the township schools foundationphase teachers' experiences in the implementation of CAPS with regard tocurriculum implementation and how their knowledge and experiencesinfluence the implementation of the curriculum. The literature reviewprovides insights into the current practices regarding CAPS in thefoundation phase in South African primary schools comparativelythroughout the world.A qualitative case study research was adopted for this study and semistructuredinterviews. The findings highlight that although teachersexperienced challenges in implementing CAPS, they acknowledge thebenefits of previous workshops. The article recommends that curriculumdesigners and the Department of Education need to urgently reviewCAPS. It has been emphasised that teachers need to be actively involvedduring the review process. Amongst all the requirements for curriculumimplementation, teachers need to be constantly monitored and supportedto ensure the quality of teaching and learning.
