What are teacher's perceptions of Teacher-led curriculum initiatives in relation to change in practice?
[摘要] School effectiveness and school improvement research is a worldwidephenomenon that has inspired a great deal of literature. This reportexamines teachers’ perceptions of a teacher-led curriculumdevelopment initiative currently effective in independent schools in theGauteng Province of South Africa, and it describes strategies forimplementation for interested schools. It is a programme that focusesschool improvement back into the classroom, with teachers leading thechanges at their site of practice. The Gauteng Independent SchoolsCurriculum Development Initiative (GISCDI) is a teacher-led initiative.Qualitative research generates an understanding of how themechanisms of this initiative impact on the lives of teachers andstudents. It provides detailed explanations of teachers’ perceptions ofchange in actual classroom practices, pedagogy and curriculumimplementation by entering into conversations with selectedparticipants. It considers the changes in light of reflective practice, afterinvolvement in the GISCDI. The report accesses the differentmethodologies the teachers implemented in their classrooms, after theteacher-led interventions were presented to them. It also considers theconcepts of teacher leadership, trust, distributed leadership andcollegiality as being the core elements to initiating, implementing andsustaining change in practice, to benefit student learning and improvingschools.
