A role for transforming growth factor alpha and its receptor in human oesophageal cancer

[摘要] A member of the epidermal growth factor (EGF) family; transforminggrowth factor alpha (TGF-a) shares significant homology with EGF andbinds to the EGF receptor (EGF-R). Like EGF TGF-a plays importantroles in normal physiological processes; but, as its name signifies, it haspotent transforming ability; often associated with autocrine stimulatorymechanisms. The purpose of this study is to investigate a possible rolefor TGF-a and its receptor in certam human oesophageal squamous cellcarcinoma (SCC) cell lines - namely, WHCO-I, -3 and -5.
