The collective voice: the novels of Tchicaya u Tam'si.

[摘要] This two part study of Tchicaya U Tam'Si's novelsreflects the twin objectives of the research project.By showing in the first part the need for criticalcriteria founded in the socio-historical andlinguistic realities of Africa, the hegemony of theWestern aesthetic canon with respect to Africanwriting is challenged. In the second part, byapplying a contextualised, syncretic critical approachto U Tam'Si's prose works, important features not onlyof his narrative but also of his poetic discourse areilluminated. This movement from broad questions oftheory to focus on a specific body of writing makes itpossible to identify elements that may be consideredcharacteristic of African writing in general while atthe same time contributing to a better understandingof a particular writer's creative expression.
