The role of the engineering information system in computer integrated manufacturing.

[摘要] This dissertation shows that the engineeringinformation system (EIS) is the primary integrationmechanism in computer integrated manufacturing. The EIShas been defined by creating a functional as well as aninformation model. These models are the initial stepsin the process of implementing an EIS by means of adatabase management system. The modelling of the EIS isdefined within a work brealcdown structure for CIMacquisition which is applicable to any CIM project. Theimpact of the scope CIM of and the changes thisrequires are also defined. It is also shown that for anenterprise involved in the manufacture of complexsystems it is more beneficial to introduce CIM in thoseareas outside the area of factory automation, Thecomplexity of the EIS information model is such that ithas not been possible to construct it manually.Automated tools should be used to create the EISinformation model.
