White teacher attitudes to multi-racial schools in South Africa.
[摘要] The purpose of this study was to investigate attitudes ofWhite teachers towards multi-racial education and factorsaffecting these attitudes. The original sample was toconsist of English and Afrikaans speaking White teachersin Krugersdorp. However, the Transvaal EducationDepartment denied permission to conduct the stud) and thesample was changed to one-hundred-and-forty teachersdoing post gradv.-~e work both at the University of theWitwatersrand and Rand Afrikaans University. Since thenew sample for the study consisted of teachers enrolledfor postgraduate study, the findings of the study arelimited to similar populations. The research design usgdwas descriptive. Attitude Towards Segregation scaleadapted from Kosenbaum and Zimmerman (19u9) wasadministered to both groups of teachers. Responses weresummarized by calculating the mean and standard deviationto each item. An analysis of variance test wasadministered because of the multi-variate characteristicsof the hypothesis to be tested. When sample cells humunequal sizes, the corrections were made by the O.L.M.process. Also post hoc comparisons were made by theapplication of Duncan's multiple range test.
