The geology and engineering properties of South African calcretes.

[摘要] This report describes the results of a comprehensiveinvestigation into the classification, distribution, composition,origin, age, and engineering properties of calcretesin South West Africa and the Republic of SouthAfrica. Methods of prospecting for calcretes and testsand specifications for their use in road construction inthese countries are also considered. All previously publishedinformation on Southern African calcretes and much ofthe world literature is reviewed, the results of theauthor's own research reported, conclusions drawn on thebasis of both, and aspects worthy of further investigationindicated. 1,070 pages, 75 plates, 106 figures, 172tables, 13 maps.
