[re]Mapping the airport: business conference centre & hotel at Lanseria
[摘要] The imagery of flight remains one of the mostcaptivating views in history. The bird’s eye viewit gives to man has helped him to gain an understandingof a particular area, in addition tobroadening his knowledge base. Air travel hastime in sense (because of its convenience), andshaped cities, with the airport control towerbecoming a dominant icon within the landscape. Its form of communication and navigation isdifferent: having its own language, symbols thathave to be comprehended before the journeyof flight can begin. The map is one such devicethat serves as a medium between the technicaland the lay – enabling a simpler understandingof a complex subject. It is dexterous in its abilityto show detail, aiding the design process byhighlighting key elements, summarising others, and giving clues as to the proposed site andprogramme. The focus of this study is to design a hub forbusiness, as well as a facilitator for improvingthe knowledge of the visitor through informationand networks. Specific functional elements werechosen in an attempt to supplement the existingLanseria airport, in addition to creating an identityfor a gateway into area and its surrounds. Inaccordance with the co-operative nature of theindustry, the proposal can become a marketablefeature for the developing, expanding airport. This document examines the context of aviationand theatrical explorations into its methods ofcommunications (Chapters 1 – 2); the searchfor an appropriate site (Chapter 3) and theformation of programme and precedent studies(Chapter 4); leading up to the final design of theCentre and its technological aspects (Chapter 5).
