The determination of rainfall volumes using a conventional s-band weather radar

[摘要] Two aspects of radar-based measurement of convective rainfall over theTransvaal Highveld are examined. Drop size distributions (DSDs) are studied inorder to quantify the effects of drop size distribution variability on the Z-Rrelationship, and the area-time integral (ATI) method is investigated as a possiblemeans of radar rainfall measurement. Drop sorting effects are clearly evident inconvective rain with resultant DSDs having higher numbers of large drops andcausing Z-R derived rain rates to be overestimated. Abbreviation abstract)
