The use of a distributed hydrologic model to evaluate the location of development and flood control reservoirs
[摘要] The Little Cypress Creek watershed remains one of the least developed areas in Houston. A Vflo™ physically-based, distributed hydrologic model is used to predict the effects of future development within the watershed. Model inputs include a flow direction grid generated from LIDAR elevation data, channel characteristics, NEXRAD radar rainfall, and soil and land use parameters. The model was successfully calibrated to a June 2001 and an October 2006 storm. Regional developments are placed in the upstream, midstream, and downstream portions of Little Cypress Creek. Developments are analyzed for their impacts on peak flows for the 100-year design storm; peak flow is plotted against drainage area for observation points along the creek. Local and regional reservoirs are evaluated for the ability to bring downstream flows back to existing conditions.
