The thermal conductivity of light hydrocarbon gases and gas mixtures at atmospheric pressure
[摘要] Thermal conductivity data have been determined for methane, propane, n-butane, n-pentane and four methane-propane mixtures at atmospheric pressure and in the temperature range 50C to 150C. Measurements were made with a modified concentric cylinder thermal conductivity cell, temperature differences being measured by means of thermistors. A correlation of the thermal conductivity of the pure hydrocarbon gases is presented in terms of gas viscosity, molar heat capacity, and molecular weight, on the basis of Eucken assumption. The correlation is reasonably accurate for the first eight straight chain hydrocarbons, deviations being no greater than a few percent in the temperature range investigated. The smoothed experimental data for the gas mixtures are compared with values predicted by various correlations, account being taken of the fact that heat is transported through the gas independently by two different mechanisms. The curves predicted by the different correlations are quite similar and differ from the smoothed data by not more than about three percent.
