The effect of uniaxial stress on the electron paramagnetic resonance of ruby
[摘要] The effect of uniaxial stress on the EPR lines in 0.05% ruby may be described by the addition of a term to the spin Hamiltonian of the form. The components of the G-tensor may be ascertained from the shift of the resonance field with strain at various directions in the crystal as a function of the angle between the applied magnetic field and the c-axis of the crystal. The strain in the sample is measured using four strain gages; one bonded to each side of the sample. Linear shifts of the lines have been measured for all observable transitions at 9.9 Gc on samples with four different stress-axes. The results were fitted to the theory by a least-squares analysis, yielding the following values for the independent components of G' and G;; (in Voigt-reduced notation and units of Gc/unit strain).
