Interleukin-1β Allele Polymorphism in Egyptian Patients with Mesial Temporal Lobe Epilepsy
[摘要] Background: Temporal lobe epilepsy is one of the commonest forms of epilepsy. Its genetic background remains an issue of research. Objective: This study aimed at examining the relation between Interleukin 1-β-511 gene polymorphism and temporal lobe epilepsy, hippocampal sclerosis and febrile seizures. Methods: This study included 43 patients with TLE, 20 patients with non-TL epilepsy and 16 healthy control subjects. All patients were assessed using clinical evaluation, EEG, MRI-brain and genetic study of Interleukin 1-β-511 gene polymorphism. Results: There was no significant association between Interleukin 1-β-511 allele 2 (TT) and TLE, HS or FS. There was no difference in the appearance of allele 2 (TT) among patients with and without HS and patients with and without FS. Conclusion: There is no relation between Interleukin 1-β-511 gene polymorphism and mesial temporal lobe epilepsy in Egyptian patients. [Egypt J Neurol Psychiat Neurosurg. 2011; 48(2): 157-161]
