Duality in architecture

[摘要] The concept of duality is recognized by many too be relevant today, when complex and contradictory situations pose no simple solutions. The answers to the problems of today must be found in the inter-play and tension of opposites. This is true from the most simple aspects of everyday life such as the choice between diet or dessert at dinner, to the choice between duty and fighting in a military stalemate or integrity and refusing to fight, to all that we would hope to accomplish. Duality has long been a tradition in art and literature. The architecture of today should also find its truth and unity in opposites if it;;considers itself mature and relevant to life. This is an exploration of the general concept of duality in the literary sense and an analysis of duality with respect to the theory, creative process and the form and space of architecture.
