An experimental investigation of indexed indentation of rock

[摘要] An experimental investigation is made of the idealized drilling problem of a flat punch loading a horizontal rock surface near a previous crater. Tests are run on a limestone to determine the force required to form a chip and the chip shape as functions of the confining pressure, the inclination of the free surface from the horizontal loaded surface, and the placement or ;;indexing;; distance of the load from the free surface. The results are compared with the theoretical predictions of plastic limit analysis.
