Professor Toshio Fujita (1929-2017) as a pioneer of medicinal chemistry

[摘要] Professor Toshio Fujita (Professor Emeritus of Kyoto University since 1992) passed away on August 22, 2017. He was one of the pioneers in medicinal chemistry. Both Prof. Fujita and Prof. Corwin Hansch in USA invented the QSAR equation. He was also inventor and chief developer of EMIL (Example-Mediated Innovation for Lead Evolution) software as an expert system that contains a database of bioisosteric transformation rules. His passing means a great loss in our scientific society, indeed. Hereby we express our deepest sympathy to his family.
