Evolution of polyetheretherketone (PEEK) boxes. Clinical and radiological study
[摘要] Introduction:Cervical cases are implantsdeveloped as an alternative to the use of structural bone graft for anteriorcervical fusion. The objective of this study was to analyze the clinical andradiological results in a series of patients submitted to anterior cervicaldissectomy and decompression, to whom a PEEK box was implanted. Method:A retrospective, descriptive, longitudinal study was conducted in a series of 78 patients included in thestudy from 2007 to 2013. Radiological control included anteroposterior and lateralradiographies. Clinical and radiological follow-up of these patients was carriedout from 3 months to 12 months. Results: 65 patients had a favorableclinical course (83.3%) and the radiological evolution confirmed that 66 patients(84.6%) had a good placement of the graft without lesions in adjacent spaceswith a correct fusion. Conclusions: To date there are few descriptive studies on the implantationof PEEK boxes. This paper results are in line with those published previouslyin this same field, which legitimate the presented work. This study confirmsthe good clinical and radiological results in patients who were implanted witha PEEK box; its effectiveness in anterior cervical discectomy and arthrodesisis shown.
