Madagascar : Increasing Food Security and Nutrition

[摘要] This article previews the Food Securityand Nutrition Project, which is primarily active in two ofMadagascar's six provinces. The project has threecomponents: (a) income generating activities to be carriedout through: (i) the Fonds d'Intervention pour leDeveloppement (FID) financing labor intensive works andother income generation activities, and (ii) a food for workprogram targeted to the urban poor in Greater Antananarivo;(b) nutrition interventions including: (i) a communitynutrition program in the provinces of Toliary andAntananarivo working through mothers' groups organizedby a community nutrition agent supported by nongovernmentalorganizations to provide nutrition education, arrangesupplemental feeding and refer severe cases of malnutritionto nutrition rehabilitation centers operating under medicalsupervision, and (ii) a national iodine deficiency disorderscontrol program; and (c) institutional strengthening tosupport the development and execution of an information,education and communication program and support thedevelopment of a national food security strategy for thelong term.
