The Effects of Foreign Ownership in Africa : Evidence from Ghana, Kenya and Zimbabwe
[摘要] The effect of foreign ownership inAfrica is based on an analysis of survey data of firms inZimbabwe, Ghana, and Kenya compiled by the Regional programon Enterprise Development (RPED). This study attempts toshow the relationship between foreign ownership andfirm-level value added in Sub-Saharan Africa. The studyfinds a clear indication that majority foreign ownership hasa positive influence on value added. The study looks atwhether or not firms with any foreign equity have highervalue added. It also looks at whether majority foreignownership is correlated with value added. The study includesother factors that determine firm productivity, such asworker training programs, quantities of labor and capital,and the education of the general manager, in order tocontrol for other factors that influence firm performance.
