Techniques of fabrication and properties of lithium drifted semiconductor diodes
[摘要] It has been proposed that a solid state neutron spectrometer could be prepared from Si29 that would have very good resolution for neutrons up to 5 MeV1. The purpose of this paper is to review the feasibility of making such a neutron detector and to report on possible techniques of fabrication. The main attention is given to the processes by which such devices may be fabricated. Si29 has a natural abundance of 4.71% and can be obtained in its isotopic form by mass spectroscopic separation methods. As one might imagine, this material is extremely expensive and it is economically necessary to have a proven detector fabrication technique with a high yield before ever using the Si29. For this preliminary work, natural silicon (94% Si28) was used and the procedures discussed in this paper are concerned with lithium drifted detectors fabricated from commercially available silicon.
