Africa Can Compete
[摘要] The study explores an important emergingopportunity for African exporters in a particular U.S.market niche - Afrocentric textiles and home products. Thesize and specific demand requirements of this emergingmarket are assessed by way of case studies of several largeU.S. retail firms which are trying to source these Africanproducts. For various reasons, African firms are havingproblems meeting the demands of these firms, and the studyinvestigates the specific supply constraints throughdetailed interviews with African producers. During thestudy, a growing opportunity for standardized garmentsproduction for mainstream U.S. consumers was also uncovered.The final section of the study assesses the competitivenessof African producers in this market and assessesAfrica's future potential in this global export market.
