Africa Can Compete in Europe
[摘要] There is a demonstrated demand in Europefor African products. Europe imports more manufactured goodsfrom Africa than the US and Japan combined, and Europeanfirms are the primary source of foreign investment in manyAfrican nations. This study, Africa can compete! Exportopportunities and challenges in garments and home productsin the European market, examines opportunities andchallenges for African products in European markets. It isan extension of an earlier publication entitled Africa cancompete! The study explores important trends in consumptionpatterns in the European Union (EU) markets and assesses thedegree to which these patterns offer opportunities forAfrican exporters. The EU market requirements facing Africanproducers in terms of price quality delivery and volumes arealso examined, and case studies describing the challengesAfrican firms have in meeting these requirements arepresented. Data are also presented to show that, incountries where policy reforms have been pursued, exports ofstandardized products, like garments, are price competitivewith their Asian rivals.
