Gender Gaps in Peru : An Overview

[摘要] Closing the existing gender gaps will berequired to boost shared prosperity and maximize povertyreduction efforts in Peru over the coming years. Genderinequities are not only unfair from an ethical and socialperspective, but also economically inefficient. Greatergender equality can raise overall productivity, improvedevelopment outcomes, especially of the next generation, andlead to more representative decision making. This review ofgender issues aims to uncover the main gender gaps in thecountry, and to identify potential policy recommendationsthat could help closing them in the coming years. Chapter 1covers the legal and institutional framework and the issueof the agency of women; Chapter 2 provides an overview thesituation with regards to the main endowments of health andeducation; and Chapter 3 deals with the existing gender gapsin economic opportunity.
