African Universities: The Way Forward

[摘要] This study explores what can be done toovercome the current crisis of quality, relevance andfinance in African universities. It catalogues theaccomplishments of African universities, identifies currentproblems, and signals likely solutions. It analyzespertinent experience in seven key areas where changes areneeded: university - state relations, financialdiversification, management, governance, relevance, qualitypreservation, and managing the social demand for highereducation. The report also suggests how a process of highereducation reform can be initiated, and outlinescomplementary roles for government, universities and donorsin the process.
