Groundwater Quality Assessment Plan for Single-Shell Waste Management Area B-BX-BY at the Hanford Site.
[摘要] Pacific Northwest National Laboratory conducted a first determination groundwater quality assessment at the Hanford Site. This work was performed for the U.S. Department of Energy, Richland Operations Office, in accordance with the Federal Facility Compliance Agreement during fiscal year (FY) 1996-1997. The purpose of the assessment was to determine if waste from the Single-Shell Tank (SST) Waste Management Area (WMA) B-BX-BY had entered the groundwater at levels above the drinking water standards (DWS). The resulting assessment report documented evidence demonstrating that waste from the WMA has impacted groundwater quality (Narbutovskih 1998). The WMA is located in the northwest corner of the 200 East Area and consists of the 241-B, 241-BX, and 241-BY Tank Farms and ancillary waste systems (Figure 1.1). The unit is regulated under Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) interim-status regulations (40 CFR 265, Subpart F) and was originally placed in assessment groundwater monitoring (40 CFR 265.93 (d)) in June 1996 when elevated conductivity in downgradient monitoring well 299-E33-32 was confirmed by verification sampling. A rise in conductivity was initially observed in this well in February 1996.
