Development of the Automated Steel Cleanliness Analysis Tool (ASCAT). (Final Report, September 24, 1999-September 23, 2005).
[摘要] In September 1999, RJ Lee Group, Inc. (RJLG) was awarded a contract from the US Department of Energy (DOE), through the Industries of the Future program, to develop technology to permit steelmakers to evaluate the quality of the steel through the analysis of individual inclusions. The project, entitled Development of the Automated Steel Cleanliness Analysis Tool (ASCAT(TM)), was performed through a combined effort of RJLG, Dr. Richard Fruehan, Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), and several Industry Partners. The ASCAT was developed around a next-generation computer controlled scanning electron microscopy (NG-CCSEM) platform and specialized analysis/interpretation software designed to relate inclusion characteristics to overall steel cleanliness, and other metallurgical issues associated with the steel making process. The objective was to develop technology to increase overall inclusion characterization information while minimizing individual sample analysis time to enable plant personnel to make adjustments in the steel making process to improve product quality and prevent problems such as nozzle clogging. In addition, ASCAT can be used as a research tool to improve the steel making process resulting in increased production and profits while saving energy. During the course of the project, the ASCAT was tested in a variety of steel making applications.
