PLASMA SPRAY CONSOLIDATION OF HIGH-TEMPERATURE COMPOSITES
[摘要] Plasma spray processing represents a synthesis of rapid solidification and composite materials technology. In this study, dense deposits of Ni3Al alloy matrix reinforced with TiB2 particles have been fabricated by vacuum plasma spraying (VPS). A uniform distribution of the particles in the matrix has been obtained. The room temperature mechanical properties show significant strengthening due to the presence of the reinforcing particles and also the fine grain size of the matrix. The degree of strengthening is shown to be greater than obtained by other compositing routes. It is apparent that enhanced particle-matrix bonding is obtained by the VPS process. Failure of the composites occurs along the grain boundaries and particle-matrix interfaces.
