Effects of Antioxidant Therapy on Leukocyte Myeloperoxidase andCu/Zn-SuperoxideDismutase and Plasma Malondialdehyde Levels in ExperimentalColitis
[摘要] The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects ofN-acetylcysteine (NAC) and L-carnitine (LCAR) supplementations onpolymorphonuclear leukocytes myeloperoxidase (MPO) andCu/Zn-superoxide dismutase (Cu/Zn-SOD) and plasma malondialdehyde(MDA) in acetic acid (AA)-induced ulcerative colitis model. Themean polymorphonuclear leukocyte MPO and Cu/Zn-SOD activity wassignificantly higher in the colitis group than in the controlgroup. Both NAC and LCAR pretreatment markedly decreased MPO andCu/Zn-SOD activity compared to colitis group. AA administrationsignificantly increased the levels of plasma MDA in comparisonwith controls. However, NAC and LCAR administration to theAA-treated rats significantly reduced the MDA levels compared tocolitis group. In conclusion NAC and LCAR could be beneficialagents in restoring the circulating proinflammatory mediators.
