Evaluation of Sapindus saponaria as a defaunating agent and its effects on different ruminal digestion parameters
[摘要] TheseedpericarpfromSapindussaponariawasevaluatedasadefaunatingagentintermsoffeedintakeandpatternoffermentationusingthreecrossbredadultsheep.Theexperimentaldesignwasa3x3Latinsquarewith30days/period.Treatmentsincluded0,25and50gofS.saponariainthediet.Theprotozoalpopulationwassignificantly(Plt;0.05)reduced(84%),andasignificantincrease(Plt;0.05)intotalviablebacteria,cellulolyticbacteriaandfungiwasobserved.Thedegradabilityofthedrymatterat24halsoincreasedsignificantly(Plt;0.05).Animportantimplicationofthisstudyisthepossibilityofdevelopingapracticalwaytomaintainareducednumberofprotozoainruminantswhileatthesametimebeingasourceofnutrients.
