Feeding ensiled poultry excreta to ruminant animals in Syria
[摘要] Silagesmadeofpoultrylitter(40%oftotalDM)withforagemaize(56%oftotalDM),molasses(2%)andwhey(2%),and/orpoultrylitterwithsugar-beetpulp(1/4-5parts)orgrapemarc(1/2.5parts),weremade.SilageshadpHvaluebelow5andapleasingaromaandcolour.SilageswerefedaspartialreplacementforconventionalfeedstuffstolactatingShamicows,Awassiewes,growingheifers,fatteningbullcalves,youngAwassiramlambsandSyrianMountainkids.Animalsonsilagesperformedbetterthan,oratleastequallywellas,thoseonthecontroldiet.Nodiseaseproblemswereencounteredfromincludingpoultryexcretasilageinthediets.Theenergyvalueofpoultrylitter-foragemaizesilagebasedonanimalperformancedatawasestimatedat2.28(bull-fatteningstudy)and1.97(Shamigrowingheifersstudy)McalME/kgDM.ThecorrespondingMEvalueofsugar-beetpulp-poultrylittersilagewas2.18McalME/kgDM.Thenutritivevalue(perSyrianPoundspent)ofthesilageswassignificantlygreaterthanthatofbarleywhentheprevailingpricesofbarleyaretakenintoconsideration.ThishighervaluecertainlycoverstheadditionalexpensesassociatedwithensilingandimprovestheeconomicsoftheSyrianfarmersusingthesesilages.
