Effect of supplements of balanced concentrates and cottonseed cake on milk production in mauritian villages
[摘要] Anexperimentwascarriedouttoevaluateeffectsoftwosupplements(aformulatedconcentrateandcottonseedcake)forcowskeptinconfinementbysmallholdersinvillagesinMauritius.Thebasaldietconsistedmainlyofsugarcanetops(fromJulytoDecember)andgrassesharvestedfromroadsidesandcommonlands.Thesupplementswerefedfor3monthspriortocalvingandthroughoutlactation.Theamountsofcommercialfeedwere2,3kg/dayforthe7thand8-9thmonthofpregancyand0.5kg/litreofmilk.Thequantitiesofcottonseedcakewerehalftheamountofconcentrate.Lactationyields(litres)forconcentrateandcottonseedcakewere3023and2871(wetarea)and2358and2649(dryareas).Therewerenodifferencesinmilkyieldduetosupplementbutyieldswerehigherincowskeptinthewetterareas.Breedeffects(localquot;Creolequot;,Friesianandcrosses)werenotsignificant.
