A revision of Canarium L. (Burseraceae) in Madagascar
[摘要] TreesinthegenusCanariumL.areknowntocompriseanimportantcomponentofthestructureofMadagascar'smoistforests,butrecentworkonCanariuminMadagascarrevealsthatthegenusalsocomprisesanimportantpartoftheirdiversityaswell.Todate,publishedFlorasforMadagascarhaverecognizedonlythreetaxaofCanarium,butherewerecognize33species,27ofthemnewtoscience;thisincreasesthenumberofacceptedspeciesinthegenusby33%worldwideandestablishesMadagascarasaprimarycenterofdiversityforthegenus.Despiteitsname,C.madagascarienseEngl.provestobeoneoftherarestandgeographicallymostrestrictedspecies.MostMalagasyCanariumspeciesarenarrowendemic,andthisisconsistentwithrecentfloristicandtaxonomicresearchinothertaxonomicgroupsontheisland.ThespeciesofCanariuminMadagascarcanbedistinguishedusingmostlyvegetativecharacters,andthiswillproveusefultoforesters,ecologists,andconservationists.MostmoistforestsinMadagascarincludemultiplespeciesofCanarium,andoneimportantavenueoffutureresearchwillbetofurtherinvestigatetheinterdependenceofthespeciesofCanariumandthefrugivorouslemursthateatthepericarpoftheirfruitsandpossiblydispersetheirseeds.
