Dominance Relationships in Dark-Bellied Brent Geese Branta bernicla bernicla at Spring Staging Areas
[摘要] Springstagingisanimportantperiodinfluencingreproductivesuccessformigratorybirds.Duringthisperiod,femalegeesemustaccumulatereservesforsubsequentmigration,egglayingandincubation.Theymayincreasefeedingopportunitiesbybeingguardedbydominantmalesprotectingalargefeedingareaandprovidingfeedingtime,and/orhavingthemselvesahighdominancestatus.UsingpairedadultsofDark-belliedBrentGeeseBrantabernicla,wetestedifmaleshadhigherdominancescoresthanfemales,iflargerindividualshadhigherdominancescoresthansmalleronesandifdominanceranksofpairedpartnerswerecorrelated.Ourresultssupportedthefirstandthirdpredictionswhile,oncecontrolledbysex,bodysizewasnotcorrelatedwithadultdominancestatus.
