Courtship Calls in Blue Tits Cyanistes caeruleus: Daily and Seasonal Occurrence and Link to Paternity
[摘要] Manybirdspeciesusespecificvocalizationsinthecontextofcourtshipor(attempted)copulations.Thesevocalizationscanbeusedtogaininformationaboutthecourtshipbehaviourofindividuals,evenwhencourtshiporcopulationbehaviouritselfisdifficulttoobserve.WerecordedcourtshipvocalizationsofBlueTitsCyanistescaeruleusduringthreebreedingseasons.In2014,werecordedcourtshipcallsat14locationsspreadoutovera40haforestcontaininganestbox-breedingpopulationofBlueTits.Courtshipcallsoccurredthroughoutthebreedingseason,butweremostcommonintheperiodjustbeforeandduringegg-laying.Therateofcourtshipcallingshowedacleardailypeakarounddawn.In2012and2013,werecordedcourtshipcallsduringthefertileperiodofthemale'ssocialmate.Wemonitoredthepresenceofthefemaleinsidethenestboxanddescribetheoccurrenceofcourtshipcallsthatareapparentlynotdirectedtothesocialmate.Therateofthesepotentialextrapaircourtshipscorrelatedpositivelywithamale'sextra-pairpaternitygainin2012,butnotin2013.Extra-paircourtshipcallratedidnotrelatetopaternitylossinthemale'sownbrood.
