The Frequency of Consanguineous Marriages and Their Effects on Offsprings in Tabriz City
[摘要] Background:Toomuchdiversityandaneverincreasingnumberofgeneticdisordersappearasabigchallengeinthecomingfuture.Oneofthemainsourcesofgeneticdisordersistheconsanguineousmarriageswhichare,unfortunately,verycommoninoursociety.Objectives:Inordertoprepareourselvestoacceptthechallengesregardingcongenitalmal-formationsduetoconsanguineousmarriages,thefirststepistogetcompleteinformationoftheirprevalenceandtheirriskfactors.Methods:Thestudywasmadeduring2003-2007inthecityofTabriz,Iran.Weselected6000familiesanddatawasobtainedviaaquestionnairecomprisedofinformationincludingmaritalages,numberofpregnancies,typeofdelivery,ratioofconsanguineousandnonconsan-guineousmarriages,jobsofparents,andeffectsonchildmalformationsResults:Consanguineousmarriagesofalltypeswererelatedwithincreasedcongenitalmal-formations(withratio43/1000forconsanguineousmarriagesandfornonconsanguineousmarriages28/1000).Motheragelessthan18andmorethan35particularlywasaccompa-niedwithincreasedmalformationswhileeducationofmothercameouttobeinverselyrelatedtocongenitalmalformationConclusion:Increasedstillbirths,consanguineousmarriageandmalformations,especiallyofmusculoskeletalsystem,requirenewplanningonanationalleveltocontrolandinformpeo-pleoftheconsequencesofconsanguineousmarriages.
