Urinary Screening in Primary School Children in Yazd, Iran

[摘要] Background:Urinaryscreeningprogramforasymptomaticurinaryabnormalitiesamongprimaryschoolchildrenmayfacilitatepreventing,halting,anddeferringtheprogressionofsomediseases.Objectives:TodescribetheurineexaminationfindingsinhealthyprimaryschoolbeginnersinYazd(Iran).PatientsandMethods:Acompletephysicalexaminationinthemorningwithamidstreamurinesamplecollectionobtainedfrom3014studentsintwoeducationalareasofYazd,Iran.Studentswithpositivetestresultsinthefirstscreeningwereretested.Theurinesamplesofthosewithtwoabnormalresultswereanalyzedusingdipstickandmicroscopeconcurrently.Results:Children(1527girls,1487boys)werescreenedandurinaryabnormalitiesweredetectedin94(3.1%)subjectsatthefirstscreening.Proteinuriawasthemostcommonabnormality,detectedin54(1.79%),andnext,hematuriawaspresentin16subjects.Ofthesechildren,24(0.79%)caseswerepositiveinthesecondscreening.Inthethirdanalysisofsamples,abnormalfindingsinthepatientsincludedoneisolatedhematuria,eightisolatedproteinuria,andtwocombinedhematuriaandproteinuria.19outof3014(0.63%)hadafamiliarhistoryofrenaldiseasesandthreeofthemhadrenaldisease.Conclusions:Urinaryscreeningcandetectchronicrenaldiseaseinitsearlieststagesthatmayhelptopreventthedeteriorationoffuturerenalfunction.Inaddition,along-termfollow-upofthechildrenwithhematuriaandproteinuriaissuggested.
